It’s late at night. You are not sleepy enough to go to bed, but you are too tired to do anything useful. You are a bit pekish, but you shouldn’t really eat anything this late. The solution? Some stupid game and a few bits of olives, of course! Maybe like this.

Here is the second item from the hungarian shop, FORMA.

We fell in love with the design and the rococo motifs of the Cylindra salt & pepper shaker, but the idea is great as well. Matt Carr made this shaker in a way that you can shake the salt and the pepper on your food at the same time. Double the joy, save time!

I guess you noticed we weren’t too active this week. Blame it on the overwhelming amount of work that always comes with December month. But we are back now. We are back with a game!

The bad news – it is only for hungarian residents. The good news – you can still go and take a look at the new website of the hungarian design shop, FORMA. It is only up on Monday, but I know most of you don’t spend the weekend in front of the internet anyway.

What makes me really happy is the gifts they offered to the winners, as one of them is our new favourite octopus-related item.

We will write about the other two products lucky those Hungarians can win, as both are really nice design objects you want to know about. Stay tuned.

Plastic Fantastic

It’s always worth it to re-visit the websites of the designers. Jasper Van Grootel, who designed my favourite tiles that make your bathroom look like a computer game, is here with another collection called Plastic Fantastic.

In this collection he upgraded old classic furniture to a modern design by coating them with a soft rubber. They can be used both indoors and outdoors.

The sofas and armchairs are available in a whole palette of colours and are all individually crafted.

Alice Wang is one of my favourite concept artists. Everything she does is interesting and thought provoking. This also is the case with her newest project, that is called Asimov’s First Law.

Let’s talk about artificial intelligence. Let’s talk about how machines could harm us. Let’s talk about how some domestic appliances are already affecting how we feel about ourselves. Yes, let’s talk about scales, and the negative impact they have on our self-confidence. Let’s talk about how we could avoid this emotionally stressing experience.

White Lies

Having a bad day? Spent the weekend at your parents? Just stand on the edge of the scale to stay away from reality. The closer you step to the hand, the closer you get to reality.

Half Truth

Use a middleman between you and the scale. Choose someone who loves you enough to tell you either only a half-truth, or who transmits the truth nicely.

Open Secret

This is a risky one. This scale sends a message to the chosen mobile phone with your weight. Make sure to choose wisely.. don’t be the fun of a group of people on a random pub crawl!

The Sensory Lamp

Are you sitting in front of the computer all day? You forgot how fresh air, nature and sunlight feels? If this is the case, close the browser, switch off the computer, and go out for a walk while the sun is out. If you can’t do that, we advise you to get the Sensory lamp, designed by Sara Rossbach.

The lamp mimics natural day cycles by altering the colours and intensity. The smell of the grass, and the maintenance is a constant reminder of the nature out there.

The designer plays safe: by attaching the mousepad, once we install it on our worktable, it is impossible to forget about our little garden.

I only wish we could plant some flowers or vegetables in there!

What did you want to grow up to when you were a child? Me, I either wanted to be a teacher or a clown. I’m neither, or maybe I’m both. But if you wanted to be a newscaster or the weathergirl, it’s never too late to try yourself! Maybe with this reversible cartboard theater.

Of course I’m aware that these are originally for children, so if you have one at hand, noone’s going to look at you strange for keeping this at home. If not, you can still say that it’s a christmas present that never got given away.

The theater consists of three parts, and costs 27.30 pounds, which is a bit steep. But hey, your childhood dream worths it!

Ivy is an external hard drive. It’s easy to guess: when you start using it by storing data, it will alter its skin visualising the content of the hard disk.

The pattern is always personal: it is created by the actual data, so it will be different every time you upload something new on it.

There’s only one thing that is more humiliating than using a napkin: not using it and having the food / drink poured all over us. Of course we always knew that someone would sooner or later come up with the solution, apart from the obvious “mouth to the spoon, not spoon to the mouth” advice. The german design studio, Ett La Benn has the answer.

“This shirt collar with buttoned napkin works as a protector. The system is completed by a further napkin attached to the cuff.” So you not only keep your elegance, but you can keep that good old habit of wiping your mouth with your shirt.

Preserve Wildlife

Let’s see. There’s still 3 months left til Christmas. There’s enough time to make up for anything bad I might have done. Enough time to help every elderly who wants to cross the street. Enough to give up internet during work. Maybe that will make Father Christmas or whoever is responsible for the presents to leave one of these BC ‘Wildlife Preserve’ shoes under my Christmas tree.

First I though they were mice, but now I see these are indeed bunnies. Any american can buy it for 55 dollars. I haven’t found any shop that would ship to Europe though, so I will need to find an american Christmas tree.

Normally i post things here that make me think: i want those! Then there are things that take your breath away, and wihtout thinking you look for the order button.

The Swiss Glamour Camping Kit is one of these, made by Urban Decay together with Paul Frank (who itself would worth an entry of his own).

What it contains: 125 dollars worth of cosmetic goodies, like eyeliners, pencils, brushes, eye shadows, lip gloss, oversized sunglasses, a matching case, and obviously, a mirror. And probably their heart and soul.

Mine went astray when i did find the order button, as it retails for 299 dollars, and I’m afraid we’re just way too far from christmas to justify buying it.

And since (almost) everyone who uses a computer has a mouse as well, why wouldn’t you get a cat too to tame that naughty thing. The oneman editorial staff of Elit Alice instantly fell in love with and embraced Nicole Locher’s way of thinking. It’s not easy to be sweet but effective, peachy but snapping. But this attitude goes well with this swiss girl.

Nicole, who grew up browsing the fleemarkets in Paris and London, started her own clothing line named Locher’s in 2005, but her works became fully-fledged just now.

The style of the website itself reflects the “sweet but perverted” mood of the collection.To counterbalance the elegance and antiquity of the embroidery, she adds the playful charm of a dirty saying embroidered into every shirt.

You could already read about Teresa Almeida on this site. She has many projects, one is still running, and it’s about urban life, repressed emotions and moods, and how these can be projected into modified dresses, wearables. After the well envied Space Dress, now here is Yuga.

Yuga consists of a belt and a handbag, that are speakers as well, and they speak the moods of the wearer instead of the wearer herself. The belt detects physical proximity and movement, and according to the data collected it creates brief compositions – that allow others to notice this wearable user’s presence or thus the user herself to reclaim spontaneous attention and/or interact with the surroundings. The handbag makes a screaming sound for you, if you throw it on the floor.
